Czech shooter Katerina Emmons won the first gold medal of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. Emmons set a world record and placed first in the women's 10 meter air rifle event on August 9, 2008. Shooting Career

Emmons won her first major competition in 2002 as she placed first in the 10 meter rifle event at the ISSF World Shooting Championships. She competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.
